DSTU STUDENTS DEFENDED RESEARCH PROJECTS IN DENTISTRY, OPHTHALMOLOGY AND ORTHOPEDICS
On June 9, 2020 an open final defense of DSTU bachelor students projects in the field of dentistry, ophthalmology and orthopedics was held. Using Zoom online platform, students presented the results of their work on scientific cases to DSTU scientists and representatives of Rostov-on-Don medical community.
13 students from different DSTU faculties presented the results of studying the microstructure and mechanical properties of various components of the tooth and eye tissues, presented knowledge in medicine, robotechnics, information systems cybersecurity, instrumentation and applied mechanics. The projects were defended in the framework of module "Introduction to Biomedical Materials Science and Biomechanics", developed by Professor of the University of Sydney, a world-famous scientist Michael Swain.
– I am impressed with the quality of student projects, I can see the sincere interest of young people in their chosen topics, - said Michael Swain. – In a short period of time, students have really delved deeply into various subject areas. I hope that these projects will be a start in their further scientific research career.
Scientific projects were carried out under the guidance of DSTU leading scientists, as well as practicing dentists, ophthalmologists, surgeons of the city hospital No. 1, Dental clinic of Rostov-on-Don and Rostov State Medical University.
The 3-rd year students of DSTU can take part in the module "Introduction to Biomedical Materials Science and Biomechanics" next academic year. Submit an application and pass preliminary examination.

The module "Introduction to Biomedical Materials Science and Biomechanics" is a unique study course developed by Professor of the University of Sydney, a world-famous scientist Michael Swain. Every year the best DSTU students are selected to participate in the project. Young people solve applied problems of bioengineering and medicine set by clinicians and scientists of Rostov.
