Eva Cendon, Fernuniversität in Hagen, and Olga Oleynikova, National Erasmus+ Office in Russia, were the key speakers of the seminar. The participants were Higher Education Reform Experts, methodologists and academic staff from various Russian Universities.
The first part of the seminar was devoted to plenary discussion of SCTL methodology: its history, relevance and European documents to support it. Session explained the multiple dimensions of the concept of student-centred learning, defining them and explaining how they have evolved. Speakers’ presentations touched upon realities, challenges and successes in different approaches to student-centred learning. A panel discussed the different educational approaches and changes in the classroom that need to be employed to make student-centred learning reality. This can mean new pedagogic approaches (e.g. problem-based or collaborative learning) or different types of learning spaces that will enable students to be more active learners, acquire disciplinary and transversal skills, and develop into more autonomous learners.
The second part of the training was devoted to the plenary session “Skills required from teachers, how to train teachers in SCTL methods”. All the participants worked in groups. In each of the five groups, the chair briefly introduced the session’s method and schedule (5-10 min) followed by interactive participants’ discussions. Seminar participants answered the questions in groups related to academic staff training in terms of SCTL. Meeting results were presented for common discussion.
